History

The Owensboro Thoroughbreds are a professional basketball team with a core vision of positively impacting young lives in the community while providing quality entertainment for families.  With a focus on community engagement they enter year four with a new vision of serving and supporting local organizations and initiatives.

2018
Kentucky Thoroughbreds
On September 13, 2017, North American Premier Basketball (NAPB) announced a team would play in Owensboro, Kentucky, owned by Brandon Lesovsky, a business partner of NAPB founder Dave Magley. The new team replaced the recently folded Kentucky Mavericks of the Premier Basketball League in Owensboro. On October 5, team name was revealed as the Kentucky Thoroughbreds and that owner Lesovsky would also be head coach and general manager. Lesovsky had previously coached the Orangeville A's of the National Basketball League of Canada.
2019
Owensboro Thoroughbreds
After the first NAPB season, in which the Thoroughbreds went 14–19, the league was rebranded as The Basketball League (TBL). On October 15, 2018, the team announced a name to the Owensboro Thoroughbreds and an ownership change. Veter Dixon became a co-owner and team president while former assistant coach Adam Chrisco was promoted to head coach.
2020
New Team Market Owner
In late 2019, Chris Allison became the new Team Market Owner. Allison brought in a new culture and commitment to long term development within the community. Along with him was General Manager, Cody Ballard, from Columbus, Ohio and Head Coach, Mark Anderson, previously the coach of the Jamestown Jackals, for the 2020 season.
2021
Thoroughbreds Make The First Ever TBL Playoffs
2021 was a year full of personal tragedies and signifiant injuries. Through it all, the Thoroughbreds finished 16-8 and went to their first TBL playoffs. Both Conference Semi-Finals games went to overtime and came down to 1 point. Disappointing end to a great season, but fuel for 2022.
2022
2022 LOWER MIDWEST REGULAR SEASON CHAMPIONS
The Thoroughbreds finish the regular season 20-4 and with the 3rd best record in the league. The team fell shorts in the Midwest Conference Championship against the Kokomo Bobkats!
2023
The TBL Season Tips Off On March 3rd!
The Thoroughbreds return for their 6th consecutive season in hopes to bring the "Lillie" back to Owensboro!
